Can political rivalry stoop so low so as to dare take liberties with even the security of the country and making scapegoats, those professional Police officers who toiled hard in collecting and assimilating intelligence inputs about matters in respect of the country’s security and threat perception to its political leaders and took on the well identified executors of terror activities. Motivated, the terrorists had camouflaged the apparent motive of the group by putting in front or carrying with them as accomplice, a young girl who in fact was a terror module but was projected and that also, on oath, by the then government as an “innocent” having no terror links . The Home Ministry “set aside” the findings of the impeccable IB and instead constituted a SIT to manufacture “findings” accordingly. The young girl who was an activist of the LeT and which was corroborated by terrorist Headlay and by the website of the terror outfit “ Gazva Times” as also the weapons recovered from her person, with whom were two Pakistani nationals, was on a specific mission following hatching of a conspiracy but got engaged in an encounter with the Police and killed on June 15, 2004 . The cat has finally come out of the bag and revelations after revelations have exposed the designs of the then UPA government and hence stirred the conscience of the people as to what could be the motive of all this, excepting to frame and falsely implicating the main political rival of the then congress led UPA government of Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Could anyone, other than those who think they had earned irrevocable monopoly in their right to rule as a divine duty, be allowed entry to power constitutionally as the “traditional hardened rulers” want to limit the space and scope of such change to insignificant proportions and if such attempts bear no fruits, then to try to implicate the rivals, frame them and defame them is what is Ishrat Jahan case all about and made complicated by alleged manipulations by the then Home Minister in the UPA government.
It is regarding not tolerating others and conveniently keep branding them as Rightists, communalists, extra nationalists, intolerant jingoistic and hence having no place in the political system for being in government even if with new policies, new ideologies and the like within the framework of the constitution. Human conscience and inner awakening does not stop it any longer from either feeling remorse over or come out rebellious against and alternately confess any wrong having been committed by him at the behest of a close relative, an authority under whose directions he or she had to work or perform an act or under any other form of influence, duress or threat. In Ishrat Jahan case, the same thing appears to have happened.
Let it be first decided by which standard of ethics, morality or commitment towards the nation, some of our political leaders have started seeing in terror related matters, politics to either appease some sections of the society who otherwise are mistakenly thought to be having soft corner for such terrorists and saboteurs, or a means to settle political scores? Controversial and contradictory second affidavit is allegedly filed before the court as against the original one only with the reason to show that the lady terrorist killed in Police encounter was in fact a completely innocent person and the government of Gujarat under Shri Modi had conspired a custodial killing .
Let it be analyzed as to how top bureaucrats of the country having served in intelligence, Police and investigative agencies could be influenced to toe to the government line in matters of professional policing and investigations. Rajinder Kumar former IB special Director, G. K. Pillai, former secretary in Union Home Ministry and R V. S Mani , under secretary in internal security wing of the Home Ministry, all have revealed the truth , the utter truth about the Ishrat Jahan case of manipulating with the intelligence inputs , twisting of facts and engineering witnesses at the behest of the then Home Minister Chidambaram. The countrymen , still to come out of the pall of indignation and gloom over spate of financial bungling, scams , acts of corruption, policy paralysis etc in the UPA Government have now learnt about another aspect of that government, that of interfering with the facts , misleading the courts and the public with an aim to frame political rivals in Gujarat. It has to be seen in the context of the then Foreign Minister Salman Khursheed disclosing how his Party Chief “cried throughout the night” over the killing of two terrorists by her own government in Batla Delhi encounter. That, hard core terrorist on a killing mission along with her three companions Javed, Amjad and Johar who were killed in police action on June 15, 2004 were “innocent” and how the findings of the IB that Ishrat was an activist of LeT was got removed from the intelligence inputs and LeT link deleted in the second affidavit filed with the court, has turned tables against those who wanted to settle political scores through “innocent” Ishrat whom Nitish Ji adopted as “Bihar Ki Beti”. This Beti had with her on the killing mission, three accomplices, two of whom were Pakistani nationals. When David Headley had already disclosed that Ishrat was the LeT activist, it found no takers in the Home Ministry not knowing why and had he denied , he would have become the most “reliable source” certifying her innocence. Our intelligence agencies had given crystal clear inputs about the place, date and the type of conspiracy hatched with intent to execute their terror plan in Ahmadabad Gujarat. LeT mouthpiece Gazva Times, soon after she was killed, praised her as a martyr and a brave activist of the outfit but that too was sidelined by the secular UPA government.
It is a travesty that the type of stooping so low in accomplishing political motives, albeit this LeT activist, and employing means even to harass, hound, chase and torture an ablest qualified under secretary in the MOH looking after internal security Mr. R. V. S. Mani as he initially reportedly refused to oblige .He was mortified to agreeing in submission to sign the dotted line on the “revised” and doctored second affidavit as “I was ordered to sign and file”, “ Go and file it” were the orders , the service conduct rules (Rule No 3) enjoin upon the bureaucrat not to refuse. He was subjected to lighted cigarette stubs and his coat , pants etc were burn holed and parts of body too got burn wounds as per his statement on a leading TV Channel . He says that he had drafted the first affidavit which contained all the relevant information as gathered by intelligence inputs and he submitted the same duly signed on Aug 6, 2009 . He claims that there was no need for any revision or alteration in the affidavit and the same was wetted by the Home Minister but as an afterthought, a second affidavit with “no LeT link” was drafted neither by him , nor by his senior Mr. Pillai and above them was the HM himself and inferences could be drawn , which was filed on Sept30, 2009.
It is learnt that Satish Verma was made Head of the SIT to probe the IB , Gujarat Police etc vis-a vis encounter and as per Mani’s version, Satish Verma was engineering evidences rather than collecting. The IB inputs were most reliable which Mani claims as per his experience but not to speak of believing in them , he was entrusted the job of implicating the IB. It was revealed that all cases filed against the Police officers in Gujarat were fake. They had worked in fairness under well established system and not in individual capacities.
This secret could not hide for more time. Can some leaders go to the extent of playing havoc with the security of the country for political considerations? Why UPA wanted to target Modi ? Were Amit Shah and others who were jailed, in fact innocent? Why Chidambaram recently cast doubts on the sentencing and hanging of Afzal Guroo. Not only Rajinder Kumar, J. K. Pillai, R. V. S. Mani but Asif Ibrahim, former IB chief were sidelined and now are not believed by the Congress as all are “liars” and Congress alone spoke the “truth” why? Why political class was then so desperate to prove Ishrat was innocent? Who swam the tide with Ishrat case (the parties supporting the UPA government) and why? Why should not the Ishrat Jahan case be reopened ? Why and when should legal proceedings be initiated against Chidambaram for allegedly coming to the rescue of the LeT activist Ishrat Jahan? Is it a brazen case of pinning political opponents down? Who will clarify?
