JAMMU, Oct 25: Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot visited the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Campus, University of Jammu and launched the e-Content of Course in Computer Concepts in Dogri language, here today.
The Minister also inaugurated the Cyber Forensic Lab at NIELIT in an impressive function organized by the department.
Earlier, the Kashmiri language pack was released by Pilot last year in a similar function held at Srinagar.
Meanwhile, the Minister handed over orders to 150 youth as Computer Operators in Rural Development Department for handling Management Information System (MIS).
These youths were among those who have qualified rural training computer courses under centrally sponsored scheme. Such courses are held in eight districts of the State which included Jammu, Rajouri, Udhampur, Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Leh and Kargil.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Pilot said that Computer literacy is not for metros and cities only, but for the rural areas also, adding that if we really want to reap the benefits of the revolution in Information Technology, we must ensure that our remotest citizens have these facilities.
While informing that there are 12 crore Internet and 90 crore mobile phones functional in the country , Pilot said that 150 more mobile towers will be installed in the State of Jammu and Kashmir very soon, adding that apart from 500 Satellite phones already functional in the State, 267 new Satellite phones would be installed in the State within one year.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Member Parliament, Madan Lal Sharma, Dr Ashwini Kumar Sharma, CEO & MD NIELIT, John Samuels, Postmaster General, J&K, Subash Sarkar and AH Moon, Director NIELIT Srinagar/ Jammu.
Meanwhile, Sachin Pilot has pledged full support of his Ministry to University of Jammu in its forthcoming projects during interaction with the senior Deans and officials of the University on his visit to Campus.
The Minister assured support for various forthcoming projects especially the proposed Media Centre and Hostel for girls of far-flung areas.
Earlier, on his arrival, the Union Minister and Member of Parliament Madan Lal Sharma were welcomed by Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor, while Prof Naresh Padha, Registrar was also present on the occasion.
Prof Ishar later in a power point presentation briefed the Minister in detail about the various achievements of the University and the developmental works being undertaken on its main Campus as well as the offsite Campuses.
Speaking on the occasion, Pilot reiterated Government of India’s continued support to the institutions of higher learning. He assured of his personal intervention in clearing the bottle necks for smooth progression in different new JU projects. He also promised to take up the University matter with the State Government as well as with Kapil Sibal, Minister of Human Resource Development and Minister of Communications and Information Technology.
