Physiotherapy

Dr. Rahul Sharma
Can I take physiotherapy Treatment any time I want to?
The answer is a Big No. Only a qualified physiotherapist can decide to administer and prescribe physiotherapy treatment after complete evaluation and diagnosis of your health status.
Can I have the physiotherapy treatment of my choice?
No. A physiotherapist can only decide what type of exercises to prescribe a patient after doing Muscle testing. The choice of exercise and use of treatment modality is the discretion of the physiotherapist who is treating you, as all the treatment modalities are having some indications and some contraindications.
Can I discontinue the Physiotherapy treatment when I get relieved of symptoms?
No. Remember prescribing physiotherapy treatment is like prescribing Medicine. You will not get benefitted unless you act as advised. Your doctor has formulated a treatment plan for you and you have to attend all the treatment sessions as advised to you by your physiotherapist. Do not skip a single session. You may be prescribed one session or two sessions per day depending upon your condition acute or chronic. Remember only your Physiotherapist knows whether your condition is acute or chronic. Do not interfere in the treatment plan.
Can I get physiotherapy treatment by my physician or surgeon?
The answer is again a Big NO. Though the physiotherapist is also a first contact person to visit but your Physician or Surgeon can refer you to the Physiotherapist if he or she thinks so. Remember a Physician or Surgeon can only refer you to the Physiotherapist but it is only a Physiotherapist who can prescribe and administer a proper and required physiotherapy treatment to you as they are trained and made expert in that. Prescribing Physiotherapy treatment by Physiotherapeutic means and techniques is not the domain of a surgeon or physician.
Physiotherapy treatment has no side effects
It is a big myth prevailing. Like every medicine has, physiotherapy treatment also has its ill effects on health if not properly prescribed or administered. Overdose of Physiotherapy treatment by use of modalities like Ultrasound or diathermy can cause ill effects too. Also the dosage, frequency and intensity of treatment vary according to different conditions. Administration of treatment requires special precautions to be taken care of. So always act according to the advice of your consultant physiotherapist for having the maximum of it.
