JAMMU, Mar 13: The PHE employees held strong protest demonstration in support of their demands at PHE Complex, B C Road here today.
A large number of employees, under the banner of PHE Employees United Front and led by senior Trade unionists, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Bakshi Singh, Subhash Verma, KC Dubey and others, assembled in front of the office of Chief Engineer, PHE Jammu at BC Road complex of the department this morning and started protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the higher authorities and also in support of their demands.
The protesting employees were also shouting slogans against Finance department for not releasing the wages of daily rated/ casual workers of the department who are facing starvation for the last about four years. They alleged that Finance and PHE authorities were causing delay in regularisation of the services of casual and other workers in light of SRO 520.

Several Trade Union leaders addressed the gathering and criticized the state authorities for the exploitation of the working class and depriving them of their wages. They said that the date of first appointment of casual and other workers be considered from the date they resumed their duty and the job be given to next kith and kin of the deceased daily wager like SRO-43 and Rs 5 lakh as special assistance be given to the retiring or retired casual worker, till framing of the proper policy.
They also demanded creation of 20 posts of transport foreman for drivers, convening of DPC of all cadre, and stop recoveries from such employees who have granted notional promotions and benefit of SRO 149 of 1973.
These Trade unionists said that they want resolution of employees/ workers demands through negotiations, but if the Government ignored, they will be compelled to launch agitation. They declared that if their demands were not conceded till March 24, they would launch ‘24-hour Kam Choor Hartal’ on March 25.
