PHE employees hold protest for release of pending wages

UDHAMPUR, Aug 10: Water Works (PHE) Employees’ Association, district Udhampur today held a protest at PHE Station near Women College under the leadership of Som Nath, senior vice-president of the Association for Jammu province.
The protesting workers, while raising slogans in support of their demands, lambasted authorities for not releasing the wages of daily wagers for last 48 months. They said that daily wagers are suffering severe financial hardships in the absence of salary, while the authorities are doing nothing besides giving assurances.
Addressing the protesting workers, Som Nath said that due to non-payment of wages, the families of daily wagers are on the verge of starvation and they have no school fee for their children. He stressed upon the authorities to immediately release all pending wages of the daily wagers.
He also emphasized on meeting shortage of staff in the department, holding DPC meeting as early as possible, change of designation of workers as per nature of working and removal of qualification bar in SRO 520 as workers are working in the department for last 15 to 20 years.
Som Nath urged Governor to intervene personally so that poor workers may get their pending wages well before EID, Rakshabandhan or Janmashthami. He also appealed the PHE employees to unite and come on one platform to get their demands redressed properly.
Those who spoke on the occasion were Vijay Kumar, Suraj Parkash, Dinesh Kesar, Makhan Chand, Patha Ram, Sukhram, Rajinder Sharma and others.
