JAMMU, Sept 21: Pulling out their shirts, a large number of PHE daily wagers today staged a strong protest demonstration at PHE/Jal Shakti complex at BC Road here today. They were demanding release of their pending wage and regularization.
A large number of PHE daily wagers, led by senior members of PHE Employees United Front (Jammu Province) assembled in the office complex of Chief Engineer PHE, at BC Road here today and started protest demonstration. They were shouting loud slogans in support of their pending demands. They were demanding release of their wages pending for the last many months, regularization of all type of daily wagers.
Many of them had pulled out their shirts and were protesting in semi-naked condition. They alleged that due to denial of their hard earned wages, their families were facing lot of hardships. Many of them were forced to face starvation.
The United Front leaders pointed out that on November 11, 2020 they had met Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan Jammu and they were assured by the LG to resolve their issue within three months, but unfortunately, till today their issues have remained unresolved. The suffering workers were only befooled by the LG Administration. They had only hope from the LG Manoj Sinha but that ray of hope has also turned elusive for them.
They said there are about 61,000 daily rated/ consolidated workers whose fate has remained undecided even after 15-20 years of service. The Government must take some decision about their fate. They also demanded revision of Minimum Wages Act in J&K UT as per Central norms.
Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included – Hoshiyar Singh, Ravi Hans, Navdeep Singh, Rajinder Singh, Mohan Lal, Rashpal Singh, Ranjeet Singh, Jyoti Kumar and Rakesh Kumar.
