NOWSHERA, Aug 22: The daily wagers and community participation (CP) workers of PHE Department held protest demonstration and blocked Jammu-Poonch road at Sunderbani today.
A large number of PHE daily wagers and CP workers earlier assembled at their local Sub Division office and held demonstration. They were shouting slogans against PHE Minister Sham Lal Sharma, Chief Engineer PHE Jammu and other officers. They were also demanding their regularization and release of their pending wages.
The agitating employees then took out protest march and moved towards Jammu-Poonch highway. They raised barricades and then sat on dharna on the highway at around 12.30 pm disrupting movement of traffic on this busy road near main chowk. A large number of buses and other vehicles remained stranded on the road for some time.
Later, with the intervention of local police, the blockade was removed and traffic restored on the highway. The workers alleged that their repeated requests have always been turned down by the senior officers and they were being exploited. They are being made to work without wages.
