SRINAGAR, Apr 25: Scores of casual laborers, daily wagers and land donors of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, today held protest demonstration demanding their regularization and release of wages on monthly basis.
The employees were holding black flags and placards reading, ‘release our wages, regularize our services and save youth save future’.
Chairman, All Kashmir PHE Causal Laborers Association, Sajad Ahmad Parray said that despite working as daily wagers for the department from more than last 15 years, the Government has failed to regularize these employees. “We have become the victims of present Coalition Government but we will not stop fighting for our genuine rights till promises made with us are fulfilled with full dignity,” Sajad said.
The chairman further claimed that they have sent a memorandum to the Chief Engineer PHE but he has not responded. “No one is bothered about us and even our own department, the memorandum that we have given to our Chief Engineer was not heeded,” he added.
The protest call was given by Kashmir PHE Joint Employees Association in support of its demands for regularization of daily wage workers, casual laborers and need-based workers.
“I have donated a piece of land to PHE Department for constructing of its office, for compensation I was promised a job, now more than a decade has passed, still the officers failed to regularize me. I don’t get my salaries in time. This year I got my salary of two months only and rest is lying with them. Tell me how I can feed my children,” said Abdul Ahad, a protesting employee.
“We are working in the PHE Department from year 1994 but till now we have not been regularized which is unfortunate and shows the seriousness of Government towards us,” said a group of proteters.
The protesters said that they were blackmailed time and again and the politicians have generated a vote bank out of them and dared that if Government failed to meet their demands, they will go for any extreme step. “We know how to build a Government and how to drop the crown of Government,” protesters said.
