POONCH, Apr 29: The PHE daily rated, ITI trained and CP workers’ proposed march to Chakkan-da-Bagh and cross LoC was foiled when they tried to take out protest march  from Poonch city to Rawlakote road here today.
A large number of  PHE daily rated workers, who are on strike for the last 48 days assembled near Fort complex Poonch near Bus stand and started protest demonstration. Tanveer Hussain, provincial president of the Union was leading the protest.
The protesting  workers were carrying banner and placards in their hands depicting their demands. The agitating workers were demanding their regularization and release of their pending wages. As they started their protest march towards Rawlakote Road, the strong contingent of police led by DySP Headquarters  and SHO Poonch, foiled their march by raising barricades.  Despite resistance, the police did not allow them to move ahead.
The police also arrested about ten agitating workers including their leader and later, they were also released.   The police foiled their proposed march towards LoC.
Several trade unionists addressed the gathering of agitating workers  and criticized the Government for its failure to resolve the issue. They said that strike entered 48th consecutive day today but the higher authorities in the department failed to provide any relief to them.
Meanwhile,  the general public is badly suffering with the ongoing agitation of the PHE workers. Many rural and far flung areas are not getting regular water supply as most of the pumping and water stations are manned by temporary workers.
