JAMMU, Sept 10: The daily rated workers of PHE department held strong protest demonstration in support of their demands here today.
A large number of workers under the banner of All J&K PHE, ITI Trained & CP Workers Association led by its provincial president Tanveer Hussain assembled at BC Road office of the Chief Engineer and started protest demonstration. They have given three days’ ultimatum to the higher authorities to frame a proper policy for their regularization otherwise they will be forced to stop the water supply to all the areas including Katra Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
These agitating workers were raising slogans in support of their demands including regularisation, timely and regular payment of their wages and enhancement in rate of their daily wage. They alleged that despite assurance by the minister and senior officers, their demands have not been addressed. Many workers are working for the last 15-20 years but still awaiting regularization.
They said the delaying attitude of the officers, has made the life of the workers horrible. They are facing starvation as many of them have not been paid their wages since long. These workers started protest on Wednesday and they have pledged to continue for 72 hours. If the Govt remained unmoved the workers threatened to go for harsh measures.
Prominent among others who addressed the gathering included Deepak Gupta, Subash Chander, Kulbhushan Singh, Jeevan Singh, Chandan Singh, Raman Khajuria, Birbal, Kamlesh Kumar and Tilak Raj.
