JAMMU, Mar 10: PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) in association with Model Institute of Engineering and Technology organized the “Startup Master Class – Chalo Start Karein” at the MIET campus today.
The aim of the Master Class was to create awareness on various startup initiatives of the Government of India, Government of J&K and agencies such as the PHDCCI, JKEDI and MSME. Around 250 students and 20 faculty members attended the event. R.S Barapatre, Director, MSME, J&K was the chief guest on the occasion. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Vikrant Kuthiala, Chairman, PHDCCI Jammu Committee, Dr Jatinder Singh, Sr Secretary, Innovation Committee, PHD CCI, Prof Ankur Gupta, Director, MIET, Irtif Lone, Community Organizer Publicity & Publications, JKEDI and Saheel Yaqoob, Deputy Director, MSME.
Vikrant Kuthiala welcomed the participants and dignitaries outlining the J&K scenario with respect to ease-of-doing-business, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Prof Ankur Gupta gave a talk on “Demystifying Entrepreneu-rship” motivating the students to consider entrepreneurship as a viable career choice. He also apprised them of the facilities available under the MIET Technology Business Incubator which provides funding support of up to Rs 8 Lakhs per idea for commercialization support.
Jatinder Singh from the PHDCCI made a comprehensive presentation covering all aspects of the startup life-cycle from ideation to incubation including angel investing, Venture Capital funding and other potential avenues for raising funds. He also outlined the initiatives of the PHD CCI such as coaching and mentoring services for startups. He informed the audience that the PHD CCI is actively working towards setting up a chapter in J&K which will focus on driving entrepreneurship related activities including incubation from campus.
Irtif Lone from JKEDI presented details of the various schemes available under the ambit of the JKEDI, but hoped that passion for entrepreneurship rather than Government incentives would drive the youth to take up entrepreneurship.
In his address the chief guest, R S Barapatre, gave real-life examples on the power of entrepreneurship as a tool for ushering in social change, empowering people and generating wealth. Prof P N Sharma, Head MIET School of Management presented the formal vote of thanks.
