RAMBAN, July 7: A Petrol tanker caught fire in Chareel area of Banihal on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Friday but no loss of life was reported in the incident.
The ill fated oil tanker bearing registration number JK05E-1172 was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu, when it rolled down from the road and landed in a gorge in Chareel area of Banihal in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
Driver of the vehicle Jagvinder Singh, son of Ichpal Singh, resident of Handwara received injuries and was immediately taken to SDH Banihal on Thursday night.
Sources said that due to the leakage of petrol from one of the chambers, the tanker caught fire today afternoon after several hours of accident.
Soon after the incident fire tenders from Fire Station Banihal, Army and local volunteers reached the spot and doused the fire.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mussarat Islam said an oil tanker caught fire in Chareel, Banihal on old NH Road and fire tenders were deployed to bring the fire under control.
However one nearby structure was also damaged in the fire incident.
