Personality cult in India

Sir,
This refers to the article ‘Cult of Personality (DE 5 Oct).  Dr. K.N. Pandita deserves encomiums for his educating commentary on the controversy caused by the proposed “revamping” of the Nehru Memorial Museum by the NDA Government. He is the first well known journalist who has stepped outside the protective cocoon of safe and run of the mill journalism, to question the Nehruvian personality cult, fostered by his successors for their own reasons, to the detriment of other great freedom fighters, notably  Sardar Patel, Subash Chandra Bose and other luminaries of the pre-independence era. His focus on Nehru’s political naïveté, supported by  historical facts, may seem too harsh to the uninitiated, is leavened with  recognition of Nehru’s qualities, but the fact remains that the N.M.M.L should not be Nehru centric, as if he was synonymous with India, and he was the only leader who steered India to freedom. Dr. Pandita ‘s article under  the subject heading, makes a strong case for making the NMML an all  inclusive monument in the memory of all those leaders who made sacrifices to  see India as an independent country.
Yours etc….
