SAMBA, Mar 14: Residents of village Manohar area of Samba today staged strong protest demonstration against the Power Development Department (PDD) for its failure to supply electricity to the village.
Fed up with the dilly-dallying tactics of the Department the people of village assembled and held a protest demonstration demanding immediate steps be taken to supply the power to the village.
The protestors said that the village is just four kms away from district Headquarters Samba and it is unfortunate that even after over 70 years of independence the village has not been electrified by the Department. Now under the new scheme launched by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to electrify all un-electrified villages and hamlets in the country, the electric poles were laid and transformer was installed over one year back but till date it has not been given the connection due to which the village is still in darkness or dependent on traditional system of light.
The protestors said that on one hand the Government is launching many beneficial schemes for the public and on the other the authorities fail to implement them on ground with the result people are suffering a lot. Terming the claims of Government about development totally hollow they said this can be gauged from the fact that a village which is just four kms away from district Headquarters and National Highway could not be electrified even after 70 years of the independence what can be condition of people living in far flung areas.
Local people have urged the District Development Commissioner, Samba that the benefits of the Saubhagya Scheme be given to them by providing power supply to the village.
Among others, Surjit Singh, Anku Sharma, Abhi Sambyal, Raj Singh, Tania Sambyal, Shakuntala, Neeta Devi, Pawan Singh, Sunita Devi and Jagbir Singh were also present in the protest.
