REASI, Feb 19: The people of Thuroo Pattian held a strong protest against Public Works and PHE Departments at Devta Gali, here today, for ignoring genuine concern of the locals, who fear threat to their existing water supply scheme because of a road work.
The protest was held when the contractor of Works Department tried to start earth cutting work on Devta Gali to Chillad road and the locals of Tulmasta, Pattian, Dadar, Dhaka, Jogni, Lorlana and other areas rushed to the spot and did not allow the contractor to work.
The locals alleged that due the construction of road, a huge water supply scheme originating from Satoge would be completely damaged thereby affecting the survival of over 7000 people who have no other option to get water.
The protesters demanded either alteration of the existing road alignment or to make alternate arrangement for providing water to the villagers. They announced that till the Government makes such arrangement, they would not allow the contractor to work on the road.
Narrating similar case, the villagers said that whole of the village Matlote was suffering for the last 4 years because of water scarcity as construction work of Gund-Judda road damaged the Sugcha water supply scheme, which was the only scheme to supply water in Matlote areas. “We will not allow the departments to repeat such act here also,” they added.
