KATHUA, Oct 6: The residents of Kathua held a protest demonstration and blocked the road against the shifting of Mahatama Gandhi Child and Maternity Hospital situated in the middle of city.
The irate residents raised protest and slogans against district administration and MLA Kathua, Rajiv Jasrotia for withdrawing the medicare facilities in the heart of town which cater thousands of poor people and handing over of the Hospital building to set up Medical College classes.
Bishan Bharti, Naresh Kumar, Pawan Kumar , Ashoka Kumar who were leading the protest alleged that they are not against the running the classes for Medical College students but will not allow to shifting of hospital which is life line of local people and numbers of villagers are also dependant upon day and night services of this city hospital.
Following the situation Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Rohit Khajuria reached in protest dharna site and assured the people that medicare services will be intact and people will not be put to any problem. “We want to use the vacant portion of old hospital building lying unused and making it ready for Medical College students. The people showed confidence over the assurance given by Deputy Commissioner, Kathua and dispersed peacefully.
