People protest as PMGSY road abandoned

MENDHAR, July 4: The people from Nakka Majari and adjoining villages held protest demonstration against PWD (PMGSY) authorities as a 7 kms road, sanctioned in 2008 has been abandoned after only earth work, adding sufferings of over 15000 population of this belt of Mendhar sub division in Poonch.
This road was sanctioned by the R&B authorities under PMGSY during 2008. The work was allotted to a local contractor and he after completion of earth work abandoned this road. Since then, this road during rains turns into marshy track, full of large pits. Even it becomes very difficult to move on foot on this road by people. It is not even trafficable till date.
This 7 kms road from Harni to Keri Galuta will be beneficial for the population of Sangiot, Nad, Galuta, Naka Majari and Totan Wali Gali, connecting main highway if completed. The concerned PMGSY wing officials claim that they have already consumed the sanctioned funds. No more funds were provided by Govt for the road.
The people of the area led by Mohd Ayoom Khan held strong protest and raised slogans against Executive Engineer PMGSY Mendhar, Chief Engineer PMGSY and R&B Minister. The people have now decided to repair this road with their own resources. They have collected money from villagers and started repair work by using own tractor trolleys. AEE concerned, Farooq Ahmed, claimed that it was stage -I work and funds for stage -II are yet to sanctioned. If sanctioned, they will start remaining work up to blacktopping.
