BHADERWAH, May 27: Irate over remaining without power supply since last 15 consecutive days that severely affected normal life, especially studies of the students, residents of Haveli Mohalla and Eidgah locality of Bhadarwah town held a strong protest and blocked the Sartingal road.
A large number of people of Haveli, Gaggal, Dhareja, Sultan Pura, Tharra, Iqbal Colony and Chinar Mohalla staged a strong protest by burning tyres and erected obstacles on the road. They were demanding the Power Development Department (PDD) to immediately restore electricity to Eidgah locality and Haveli who are living in darkness since last fortnight.
“The Eidgah locality and some parts of Haveli Mohalla have been in the dark since May 13 with little or no hope of power supply being restored anytime soon as PDD has snapped the power supply on the pretext of laying new cables”, the protesting people said.
Protestors alleged that officials of PDD are deliberately taking them to task for no fault of theirs by snapping the power supply that too when holy month of Ramadan is starting from tomorrow.
“PDD is testing our patience as we are without power and are forced to live in darkness since last 15 days on the pretext of cabling that too at a crucial juncture, when term end exams are about to start and holy Ramadan has almost commenced,” said a protestor from Haveli Mohalla, Nazir Ahmed Shah.
“PDD has forced us to come on streets and now we are ready to go to any extent,” said another protestor from Chinar Mohalla, Sajjad Ahmed, adding that they will continue their protest and are ready to remain on streets while fasting until their demands are met with.
Meanwhile hundreds of vehicles got stranded due to the protest and commuters were left with no other option but to walk to their respective destinations.
Police and civil administration led by Executive Magistrate Bhadarwah, Masood Ahmed pacified the protesters following which they dispersed and lifted the blockade.
