JAMMU, Feb 6: Continuing their ongoing struggle against the alleged discriminatory approach of the ruling National Conference-Congress, the people of Jandrah and adjoining villages today disrupted vehicular traffic on Mansar-Udhampur highway in favour of their demand for Sub-Divisional Status to Jandrah.
Carrying black flags, a number of protestors from Jandrah, Dhan, Korga, Bhatyari, Kanyala, Nagola and several other Panchayats also blocked Kishenpur-Domail Road for three hours at Jandrah and raised anti Government slogans. The agitation launched by the people of Jandrah and adjoining villages entered fourth consecutive day today.
The agitating people accused the ruling coalition of subjecting them to great discrimination by not fulfilling their long pending demand for tehsil status to Jandrah.
“The recommendations made by Cabinet Sub-Committee were politically motivated and no criteria were adopted while announcing new administrative units,” the protestors alleged adding that the Government did not take into account the problems being faced by a large population of dozens of Panchayats falling under the erstwhile block Dansal.
“The area was given Niabat about 37 years ago and since then there had been a long pending demand for upgrading the existing Niabat. We will not allow any political party to hold their function till they extend their support to our cause,” the agitating people said.
