JAMMU, Apr 23: A large number of people from Kukerian village in Tehsil Marh of Jammu district held a protest in Marh, demanding shifting of polling station.
The local villagers under the leadership of Raghuvir Singh, a social worker of Marh Block, assembled at the village and held protest. They pointed out that village Kukerian consists of more than 350 voters including adults and old people and village Kothe consists of only 150 votes.
Village Kukerian has no polling station. The people of Kukerian are made to go to village Kothe Manasa to cast their votes. Raghuvir said that Kothe Manasa where polling station has been set up by the administration is an abandoned place and to reach the polling station elderly people have to travel near about 300 mts to the polling station as no vehicle can reach there in the absence of road connectivity and in view of this people of Kukerian approached the concerned Sub Divisional Magistrate with a request to shift the polling station but it was not done. They said a village consisting of more than 350 voters should be given preference to set up polling station and if not two separate polling stations be set up for both villages.
