MENDHAR, July 31: The villagers from Nad, Chhajla and Tain area of Mendhar today held protest demonstration at Mankote and blocked Mendhar-KG-Poonch road for over three hours today.
These people were protesting against the Government and demanding construction of Jhula bridge over Mendhar river which flows towards LoC from Mankote side. The villagers said that last evening due to flood in the river, a villager was away but he saved by other people by risking their lives.
They said that there is old popular demand of the people from Nad, Chhajla and Tain area to construct Jhula bridge and every politician including MLA for the last over two decades, only gave false assurance to the public but the bridge has not been constructed there.
They pointed out that a large number of students go to schools and college by crossing this river and during flood they are unable to cross. Many times they have to risk their life by crossing flooded river.
They blocked the road and stalled the movement of vehicles up to 1 pm. Then SHO Mendhar and Tehsildar concerned reached the spot and they assured the agitating people to take up the matter with the higher authorities. Then they lifted dharna from the road.
