RAJOURI, Aug 24: Villagers from Potha and adjoining areas today held strong protest on Rajouri-Kalakote road and disrupted movement of the traffic for about three hours.
The villagers from Godhar and Potha area came out on the road at around 9 am today and raised barricades on Kalakote road. They were protesting against R&B authorities and District Administration Rajouri. The villagers alleged that Potha-Godhar road is under construction for the last more than a decade. No body knows which agency is working on it. Some times in a year, a JCB or some labours are seen working on this road while during rest of the year no work is visible on it. No body knows about the contractors working on this road and funds utilized so far.
The former MLA had announced construction of this road about decade back but till today, this small road could not be completed. The villagers alleged that R&B authorities are befooling people and siphoning out funds in connivance with the contractors. They demanded high level inquiry into the matter. They also accused District Administration for ignoring public plight despite the fact that DC was also informed several times about it.
Later, Tehsildar from Rajouri and DySP rushed to the site and pacified the agitating people. The villagers then allowed to restore traffic on the road at around 12.15 pm.
