MENDHAR, Aug 5: The people from Chhajla and Mankote area held strong protest demonstration against the PWD (R&B) authorities and blocked Mendhar-Poonch road via Krishna Ghati for about three hours today.
Due to massive flood in a Mankote Nallah today morning, the traffic remained disrupted for hours together. During the rainy season flood in this nallah snaps the road link and many students, employees, patients besides other people remain affected. Today also due to flood a large number of vehicles remained stranded for hours together. There is no bridge on this large nallah and the people’s demand has been ignored by the authorities.
Today a large number of people of this area led by Sarpanch Ch Ibrahim and Panchs later blocked the road near Chhajla and held strong protest demonstration against the R&B authorities and the Government. They were also raising slogans against Minister concerned, Majid Wani, Chief Ministrer Omar Abdullah and Chief Engineer R&B Jammu. The villagers alleged that funds for the bridge were sanctioned about two years back and even the then Minister of State for R&B laid the foundation stone in 2011 but the work could not be started on the said bridge.
Interestingly, another foundation stone for the same bridge was installed by the sitting Congress MP Madan Lal Sharma with grand fan fare at the site hardly three months back but the people of this area have been befooled. The work has not been started. Moreover, the Poonch district administration was also sleeping over the issue.
Later, SDPO Mendhar Amit Bhasin and Tehsildar Mendhar Mohd Kabir reached the spot and convinced the agitating people. The people gave five-day’s ultimatum to the Administration. They said if the work was not started, they will launch indefinite agitation. Dharna was then lifted.
