SAMBA, Sept 6: The people from Ranjri village in Vijaypur tehsil, held massive protest demonstration outside the office of Deputy Commissioner here and demanded Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia/ relief from the school managements for the families of two students killed in accidents.
Sarpanch Raya Kahjoor Singh, Naib Sarpanch Daljeet Singh Bagal and local NPP leader Rajesh Padgotra were leading the protests. The villagers in vehicles moved to the office of Deputy Commissioner here and then held demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the CEO and school management and were demanding suspension of CEO and cancellation of recognition of the St Gladious Convent School, Jakh in district Samba.
They alleged that deaths of two students including Siya Saroch, daughter of Harbans Lal of village Ranjri, took place due to negligence. There was no conductor with the mini-bus and the 4th class girl was crushed under the rear wheel of the vehicle while boarding off near her house on September 4 at around 2.30 pm. They said there is no checking on the activities of private schools by the Chief Education Officer and demanded that action be taken against him.
Later, a delegation of the people led by Sarpanch submitted a memorandum to DC, Mubarak Singh and apprised him of the matter. They demanded that proper checking of the vehicles attached with schools be conducted to ensure safety of the school going children. They also demanded ex-gratia relief in favour of families of the children.
