KATHUA, Oct 23: The irate people this evening staged a demonstration at Ujh bridge blocking the Dhar Road in protest against the removal of bell from Varun Dev Peer Baba shrine at Ujh in Billawar tehsil of Kathua yesterday.
The people shouted slogans against the Government and the administration saying that in case the bell was not reinstalled in the shrine they will intensify agitation.
The protestors said that the bell was donated by a devotee to the Shrine over a fortnight back.
However when contacted SDM, Billawar, Deep Raj said that the administration removed the bell as the shrine is being visited by both Muslims as well as Hindus.
Admitting that one section of people protested against the decision and resorted to road blockade this evening, he said installation of bell in the shrine would unnecessarily lead to tension in the area so the administration decided to remove it.
