MENDHAR, Mar 26: The people held protest demonstration against the R&B Department and blocked Mendhar-Surankote road for over three hours today.
A large number of people from Saruti and adjoining areas assembled at Ari and blocked road by raising barricades. They were protesting against the R&B department for its failure to complete Mendhar-Saruti road under NABARD despite providing compensation to the people. They alleged that people took the compensation but they did not vacate the acquired area and the department officials have also not taken cognizance of the matter.
The villagers raised slogans against the R&B Minister, Chief Engineer Jammu, AEE Mendhar and even the MLA for inaction. They blocked road for over three hours. Later, SDPO Mendhar, Surinder Choudhary, Tehsildar and even MLA Mendhar Rafiq Hussain Khan reached the spot and they pacified the agitating people. The people gave ultimatum of 15 days failing which they would launch massive agitation.
