AKHNOOR, July 29: Residents of Kabir Colony, Akhnoor held a protest near Nirdosh Chowk Akhnoor against PDD authorities for power failure and unscheduled power cuts in the area.
The people including many women gathered outside their lane and came out on the main road, disrupting movement of traffic. The blocked main road and shouted slogans against PDD. People allege that for the last many months, they are suffering due to unscheduled power cuts and low voltage supply. Even the power remains affected for hours together.
Talking to the media a protesting woman said that it is now a week ago our transformer burnt which was replaced after the few days but it again burnt and they are without electric supply since last one week. She said for the last more than 5 years all the residents of Kabir Colony are facing power crisis.
The locals alleged that PDD is causing discrimination against them as whole town was provided new insulated electric cabling and transformers but they were deprived of these facilities. They said they have approached all concerning officials and political representatives but everyone makes just false promises to them. They said since last one week the voltage supply is around 50-70 volt only.
SDM Akhnoor, Gopal Singh then reached the spot and assured the people that by tonight their transformer will be installed and their all other issues will be addressed soon. After the assurance from the SDM the road was opened by the protesting ladies. SDM Akhnoor was accompanied by Tehsildar Akhnoor Surinder Singh, AEE PDD Shanker Singh Manhas, Probationary KAS Kanika Gupta and SHO, Pardeep Sharma.
Those who were part of protest including Kamlesh Kumari, Chanchla Devi, Neena Kumari, Sunita Sharma, Kamlesh Devi, Sunita Kumari, Asha Devi, Kanchan Kumari and Sushma Kumari.
