People protest against frequent power disruptions

JAMMU, Dec 17: A joint protest demonstration was organized today by Jammu Welfare Association (JWA) and Bazar Association, Mubarak Mandi, at Chowk Chabutra and Mubarak Mandi against frequent power disruptions in Jammu East areas including Panjtirthi, Chowgan Salathia, Pucci Dakki, Jullaka Mohalla, Kachhi Chawani and Ustad Mohalla fed by Dhonthli Receiving Station.
The protest was led by Kasturi Lal Gupta, president, JWA, and Subhash Abrol, president, Bazar Association, Mubarak Mandi.
The protesting people said that it is ironical that the entire area is plunged into darkness that too for hours together by the Power Development Department by shutting down Dhonthli Receiving Station for carrying out various works by IRCON while the works can be carried out areawise as and when required by switching off the sub-station in the area.
They said that due to this negligent attitude of the PDD, common public besides heart patients, diabetic patients and those suffering from other ailments are bound to suffer for want of immediate medical aid as the Government as well as private dispensaries falling in the area get defunct in the absence of power supply.
The protesters further alleged that water supply in the areas also got affected because of frequent power shut downs. “Moreover, business of fringe businessmen like photocopier shops, photographers and others also got affected badly due to long power curtailments in the areas”, they said adding the common man has been left with no other option except to reconcile to this miserable plight caused by the arbitrary decisions of PDD.
They warned the Government in general and Chief Engineer PDD in particular to look into the matter seriously and mitigate the sufferings of common man by doing power curtailment area specific and asking the IRCON to increase deployment of labour to executed development works swiftly.
