REASI, June 18: Demanding arrest of bovine smugglers, people held a strong protest demonstration here again recent spurt in the smuggling of bovine animals.
The protesters, who comprise mostly youth from Reasi, Arnas, Pouni, Talwara, Salal, Jyotipuram and other areas, also blocked Reasi Jammu road for more than an hour disrupting vehicular movement.
They raised slogans and alleged that bovines were being smuggled in connivance with the corrupt officers.
The protesters dispersed off only after Tehsildar and ACR personally reached the spot and assured strict action against the smugglers.
Later, the people also called on DDC Reasi Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and apprised him of the matter. The DDC issued on the spot instructions to SHO and Naib Tehsildar Reasi to take stern action against bovine smuggling. He also directed Chief Animal Husbandry Officer to prepare a roadmap for numbering of the bovine animals in order to curb their smuggling.
