People are good people

Mehak Gupta Grover
Inspite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart. Doing good is a simple and universal vision. A vision to which each and everyone of us can connect and contribute to its realisation. This vision is and should be based on the belief that by doing good deeds, positive thinking and affirmative choice of words, feelings and actions, we can enhance goodness in the world.
Since our childhood, we were taught and we still teach our kids not to talk to strangers because they are bad! Really? Are strangers really dreadful? This is the vision we have been circulating in the society since ages. I know, the situation today is such that being alert is the utmost thing. But creating bad name for everyone is not ethical. We need to understand that all people are not bad. If we see properly, there are no good or bad things. People perform actions and sometimes these actions produce wonderful consequences and sometimes miserable upshot. Every human being, today, is in pursuit of his/her happiness and for the same, we do so many things. And the results for the same leads to actions, finally leading to good or bad. Same ways, in case of racial differences, a deep distrust exists between law enforcement and communities of color. It’s not the situation, but whether we react negative or respond positive to the situation that is important. Every person is right in his own condition, so by understanding the position, we will be able to resolve quite alot of problems.
Everyone makes mistakes in life, but does that mean they have to pay for it the rest of their life? Sometimes good people make bad choices. It doesn’t mean they are bad; it means they are HUMAN. Humans tend to make mistakes. Important is understanding the same and working on the positive outcome. Goodness is about character, integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral and courage. More than anything else, it is about how we treat other people.
In words of Buddha-
“Just as treasures are uncovered from the earth, so virtue appears from good deeds and wisdom appears from a pure and peaceful mind. To walk safely through the maze of human life, one needs the light of wisdom and guidance of virtue.”
People always believe that they are good and somebody else is bad. Who is good and who is bad all depends on which side of border we are on. Is India good or is Pakistan good? We are on this side of the border so, obviously Indians are good. If we would have been on the other side of the border, we would be arguing for the other side. It all depends on what we are identified with.
The moment we say something is bad, we can’t stop disliking it, can we? If we don’t like someone, can we be okay with it? No, our dislike attitude becomes into hatred. The moment we identify something as good or bad, we are basically DIVIDING THE WORLD. When we ourselves divide the world – where is the question of oneness? Where is the question of knowing the truth? And our division has nothing to do with reality. Good and bad is always according to our ego requirements.
But why do we get ego? Why do we expect every person to be same? No family is perfect! We do not have perfect parents, we are not perfect, we do not marry perfect partners, we do not have perfect children; so how can we  expect a perfect world? But, yes, we can expect a better world- by FORGIVENESS! It is vital to our emotional health and spiritual survival. Without forgiveness, family becomes an arena of conflict and a stronghold of hurt. It is sepsis of soul, cleansing of mind and liberation of heart. Hurt is a poison that intoxicates and kills. Keeping heartache in the heart is a self destructive gesture. Those who do not forgive are physically, emotionally and spiritually ill. Finally leading to a destructive world.
We must develop an attitude of gratitude and should be thankful for everything that is happening to us, knowing that every step forward is a step towards achieving something bigger than our current situation.
Life is very simple. It is our arduous life style which makes it complicated. We don’t realise but the people who fight fire with fire usually end up with ashes.
