KATHUA, Mar 19: The people of Samba and Kathua districts are worried about the worsening condition of Jammu-Pathankot National Highway as it was damaged at various locations causing the road accidents. Number of deep ditches and broken patches and heaps of dumpings on the road were seen at various locations between Lakhanpur to Hiranagar and onwards.
Under such circumstance the road accidents are very common on the highway. The tourist vehicles entering the State are unknown of road condition and they mostly become victims. The bus and truck accident at Mela Morh in Hiranagar on highway yesterday was also caused due to bad condition of road as eye witness narrated it. The accident claimed three lives and 23 passengers were injured in it.
A local person Ashok Kumar said that due to worst condition of National Highway , deep gorges were seen on the road and on bridges . The vehicles in speed on highway take jump which some times result into the road accident. He alleged that despite the double lanning, the rate of accident is increasing on highway.
Not even a day passes when a accident does take place. Yesterday night a car also brunt into Ashes due to worst condition of road. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has started black topping of road. But it was stopped in the middle. The Authority machinery also removed old blacktopping from Kalibari bridge , Chadwal bridge few months earlier which also caused accidents due to imbalance of vehicle run on road .
But the NHAI did not bother to repair it timely. The Deputy Commissioner, Kathua Rohit Khajuria said that the NHAI was asked to start black topping work and it may resume within days. The work was withheld during the winter season and now going to resume as the administration of National Highway Authority of India Jammu told .
