NOWSHERA, Sept 18: The villagers blocked Jammu-Rajouri highway near Sunderbani after a mechanic was knocked to death by an unknown vehicle late this evening.
A police spokesman said that mishap took place ata round 9 pm when the mechanic Kuldip Kumar along with another villager was going home at Bal Jakhar, about 7 kms from Sunderbani on scooter. He dropped the villager near his house along the road and then started driving towards his home. Then a Tata Mobile vehicle coming from back side hit the scooter with great force killing the mechanic on the spot and sped away. His associate who was waching it from some distance rushed there and passed the information to Sunderbani police.
Later, relatives of the deceased and villagers gathered there and they blocked the road. They also started protest against police.
ASP, Nowshera, Master Popsy said that it is hit and run case. All the police nakas have been alerted. He said that SHO Dharamsal along with force was there at the spot pacifying the protesting villagers.
