People allege distribution of ‘plastic rice’ in Srinagar

Srinagar, Sept 18: Locals in Srinagar’s Kani Kadal area today returned two ration bags alleging that the bags contained ‘plastic rice,’ while the claims have been out rightly rejected by the department.
Eyewitnesses said that a person who collected two ration bags, 50 kgs each, came back to return the same to the ration depot stating that the bags were filled with what he termed as artificial rice.
The people while expressing their anguish said that the department must not allow such things to happen and the matter should be immediately looked into.
“This is not acceptable that people will now be supplied with the plastic rice, the matter is grave and needs to be investigated; those responsible should be brought to book,” the locals said.
However, when the issue was brought to the notice of Director FCS&CA, Kashmir Dr Abdul Salam Mir, he said that the allegations were baseless and that 45-grade rice with high-nutritional value is being given to people.
