PDP to play decisive role to change destiny of J&K people: Mehbooba

Jammu, July 14: Urging the people of Jammu to repose confidence in the programmes and policies of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to bring in a change in the system of governance, Mehbooba Mufti, today said that her party was emerging as a strong region force representing true aspirations of the all regions and sub-regions of the State.
Addressing an impressive public meeting at Ranjan Jandial area of Nagrota Assembly segment today, PDP president said that with the support of people PDP has been emerged as strong alternative to the National Conference. “Being a big regional force of J&K, there is a decisive role ahead for the PDP in charting out a new destiny for the State and its people”, she said while seeking support of the people of Jammu region to get rid of the National Conference.
“Only PDP has potential to provide credible alternative of NC because this party during its tenure in the Government and as well as in Opposition has proved how to address aspirations of the people”, she said and urged people of Jammu region to response their faith in PDP for political empowerment and balanced economic growth. “Neither Congress nor BJP has potential to emerge as alternative of National Conference”, she said, adding, “I assure the people that PDP would safeguard their aspirations and concerns as a responsible political party”.
Observing that strong credibility alternative was must to strengthen democracy in the State, she said National Conference has never allowed democracy to flourish in J&K because there was no alternative of this party for more than six decades. “Before formation of PDP the democracy was meaningless in J&K and the National Conference leadership had stifled all Opposition to ensure a monopoly for itself”, she said, adding, ” emergence of a credible alternative would provide people with a choice as in any democratic system which would promote political accountability and transparency”.
Emphasising on solving Kashmir problem through human angle, Ms Mufti said that solution of this issue was must for the economic growth and lasting peace in the entire sub-continent. She said that Kashmir issue could not left unsolved because it had already dampened immense economic growth in the South Asia for decades, besides affecting the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“All sections of political opinion have to lend a helping hand in the process of resolving the Kashmir issue,” she said and made special appeal to all political parties to solve this issue through human angle. She made a reference to the statement of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajapyee who had promised to solve Kashmir problem under the ambit of humanity.
Reaffirming commitment of her party to aggressively pursue the agenda of reconciliation and development in the State, she asserted that his party, with the support of the masses, wouldn’t allow the peace process to be derailed. “As the peace process was pioneered by the PDP, party would take this process to the logical conclusion by establishing lasting peace in this region by channelizing power of the people”, she said.
Former Minister Rangil Singh, Ex-MP Trilok Singh Bajwa, Thakur Balbir Singh, Daman Bhasin, Choudhary Zulfikar, Rashid Malik, Suram Singh, Falail Singh, Hussain Ali Wafa, R K Bali, Kuldeep Sharma, Rajinder Singh Manhas and others also addressed the rally.
