Srinagar, May 16: The ruling National Conference was routed in Kashmir valley as they lost all the three seats to opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by a sizable margin with NC stalwart and former Chief Minister and Union Minister, Farooq Abdullah, losing an election in the State for the first time in his political career.
The opposition PDP has routed NC in 46 Assembly segments of Kashmir valley by grabbing 39 Assembly segments while NC got lead 5 segments and People’s Conference and Awami Ittihad Party got lead in one Assembly segment each. PDP has 19 Members in State Legislative Assembly from Kashmir valley thus adding 20 more while NC has 21 MLA and lost in 16 segments.
Abdullah lost to former Finance Minister and PDP’s Tariq Hamid Karra by a margin of 42,280 votes in Srinagar Parliamentary constituency. He was seeking re-election from the constituency and polled 115643 votes against 157923 by Karra. This is for the first time he lost election in the State since joining active politics in early 1980s.
In Anantnag-Pulwama, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti defeated NC’s incumbent Mirza Mehboob Beg with a margin of 44,735 votes. Mehbooba got 1,42,237 and Beg 97,502 votes.
In Baramulla-Kupwara, PDP’s candidate and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig defeated NC’s incumbent Sharief-ud-Din Shariq with a margin of 29,219 votes. Baig polled 1,75,277 against Shariq’s 1,46,058 votes. Salam-ud-din Bajad of People’s Conference polled 71,154 votes while as an Independent MLA Engineer Rashid secured 22,090 votes. Another Independent candidate, Aga Syed Abdul Hussain polled 7301 votes.
Soon after the announcement of the results PDP celebrated its victory by bursting fire crackers and dancing on the streets of Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag.
PDP made strong inroads in Srinagar Parliamentary constituency which was thought to be NC bastion. They took lead in 12 Assembly segments of the constituency out of 15. PDP made strong in roads in Srinagar and Ganderbal districts.
In Kangan Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 3607 votes with its candidate polling 21124 votes and NC candidate 17517 votes.
In Ganderbal Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 3013 votes with its candidate polling 13320 votes and NC candidate 10307 votes. The Assembly segment is represented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
In Hazratbal Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 5907 votes with its candidate polling 9083 votes and NC candidate 3176 votes. The segment is represented by brother of Dr Farooq Abdullah, Mustafa Kamaal.
In Eidgah Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 1197 votes with its candidate polling 3531 votes and NC candidate 2334 votes. The segment is represented by Speaker Mubarak Gul.
In Sonwar Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 3198 votes with its candidate polling 7262 votes and NC candidate 4094 votes.
In Habba Kadal Assembly segment NC got a lead of 1525 votes with its candidate polling 1819 votes and NC candidate 294 votes.
In Batmaloo Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 5195 votes with its candidate polling 9431 votes and NC candidate 4236 votes.
In Amira Kadal Assembly segment NC got a lead of 323 votes with its candidate polling 2938 votes and NC candidate 2615 votes.
In Khanyar Assembly segment NC got a lead of 1650 votes with its candidate polling 3245 votes and NC candidate 1595 votes.
In Zadibal Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 246 votes with its candidate polling 2137 votes and NC candidate 1891 votes.
In Khan Sahib Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 9742 votes with its candidate polling 15868 votes and NC candidate 6126 votes.
In Budgam Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 3191 votes with its candidate polling 15377 votes and NC candidate 12186 votes.
In Charar-e-Sharif Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 3085 votes with its candidate polling 26870 votes and NC candidate 23785 votes.
In Beerwah Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 2179 votes with its candidate polling 13012 votes and NC candidate 10833 votes.
In Chadoora Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 5251 votes with its candidate polling 16127 votes and NC candidate 10876 votes.
In Tral Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 397 votes with its candidate polling 753 votes and NC candidate 356 votes.
In Pampore Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 2922 votes with its candidate polling 3661 votes and NC candidate 739 votes.
In Pulwama Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 1327 votes with its candidate polling 2319 votes and NC candidate 992 votes.
In Rajpora Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 3664 votes with its candidate polling 9391 votes and NC candidate 5727 votes.
In Shopian Assembly segment PDP got a lead of 4388 votes with its candidate polling 11019 votes and NC candidate 6631 votes.

In Uri Assembly segment NC got a lead of 2602 votes with its candidate polling 18893 votes and PDP candidate 16291 votes.
