JAMMU, Mar 23: Terming People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the last post of resistance against undemocratic and unconstitutional onslaught, senior party leader and former MLC, Firdous Tak today said that party was ready to get consumed in its struggle to represent aspirations of people of erstwhile State instead of succumbing to the sinister designs of ruling BJP.

“Power has never been the core objective of PDP since its formation in 1999. We have struggled and stood for the aspirations of people of this trouble-torn region and sacrificed interests of organisation in the larger interest of Jammu and Kashmir. We still have the same belief and we know the path of resistance we have chosen for ourselves is full of challenges and trouble”, he said while addressing a press conference, here today.
Mr Tak, who is also spokesperson of PDP, said that the current onslaught against the party is not because it is yet another regional political organisation but only because it represents an idea of resistance within the system. “The assault is on the majority population of Jammu and Kashmir, who resent and reject the constitutional blunder BJP has committed on August 5, 2019 by misusing parliament of India, he added.
Firdous Tak further said that the party and its leadership made a conscious decision to fight for the special status of Jammu and Kashmir knowing fully that it will attract an onslaught from the fascist and divisive ruling political party. “Today when we look back we admit having suffered as an organisation but we have grown as an idea. Today people look at PDP with hope and expectations and today the party is the last post of resistance against arbitrary and unconstitutional onslaught by a party, which is bulldozing every democratic institution for its political ideology and majoritarian approach,” he said, alleging that PDP leaders were being targeted by various agencies and forced to join the shadow political organisation of BJP. “Those who resent are being booked and jailed or subjected to harassment by various Government agencies”, he added.
Tak said that like other political parties, PDP had also a choice to accept the new reality and walk the path while focusing on the corridors of power but the party preferred to fight for the dignity and honour of people.
