JAMMU, Apr 30: The Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (JKPDP) has expressed serious concerns over alleged electoral malpractices in the Anantnag-Rajouri Constituency, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of intimidating Pahari voters.
In a statement, PDP leader Firdous Tak said the BJP representatives have been threatening these voters with “dire consequences” if they do not support the Apni Party candidate, “an ally of the Sangh Parivar.”
The JKPDP claims to possess video evidence showing a BJP leader in Mendhar, Poonch, coercing Pahari voters with threats of violence reminiscent of the 1947 partition, to sway their voting decisions.
Such actions, the party argues, starkly violate the principles of free and fair elections and jeopardize the democratic process by fostering fear among electorates.
In response to these developments, the PDP claims it is going to lodge a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI), demanding a comprehensive investigation into these incidents and the implementation of measures to ensure the safety and security of all voters, especially those susceptible to intimidation.
The party has called for swift and decisive action to maintain the integrity of the electoral process and to uphold the democratic values enshrined in the constitution.
