PDP protests against power crisis, erratic water supply

JAMMU, July 26: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) organized protest demonstration at Press Club here today against the power crisis and erratic water supply in Jammu region and held PDD and PHE authorities responsible for the same.
The protestors took PDD and PHE authorities to task for their failure in maintaining power and water supply in Jammu.
The protest was led by Vikram Singh, Girsh Sharma and others. They termed it total discrimination with people of Jammu region.
The irate PDP activists raised slogans against the PDD and PHE Ministers as well as Government against over eight hour power cut and failure to provide regular water supply.
Addressing the protestors Vikram Singh said Jammu is reeling under severe power crisis since May and people have been made to suffer by this irresponsible Government in this hot and humid Summer. He urged the PHE Minister to ensure proper supply of drinking water to masses otherwise PDP workers will intensify the agitation and Government will responsible for all consequences.
He also warned both PDD and PHE Ministers not to test the patience of the people of Jammu. He alleged that even the metered areas are not also provided round the clock power.
Others who addressed the demonstration included Pankaj Gupta, Sachin Sharma, Sonu Saini and Rajat Gupta. They warned that PDP will be forced to intensify the agitation as Party can’t any long more tolerate the miseries of the people.
Meanwhile PDP Kissan Cell state president, Satpal Singh Charak said due to failure of early Monsoon in the month of June and July the drought like situation prevails in the state and only 25 percent Kharif crop can be raised. He demanded that entire state be declared as drought hit.
Mr Charak who was addressing a press conference here he said Irrigation Department has also failed to provide irrigation water up to tail end in Ranbir and Ravi Tawi irrigation canals. He demanded that Irrigation Department be geared up and sincere effort be made to solve the problems.
He said the problem has been compounded by 14 hour long power cuts and the low voltage due to which the pump sets are unable to function properly. He demanded that electricity be regularly supplied for 12 hours on the pattern of Punjab. He also demanded introduction of crop insurance scheme so that farmers’ community is benefited.
