Srinagar, Apr 19: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that the Government has stopped providing employment opportunities to youth in Jammu and Kashmir and despite getting cheaper oil from Russia, the oil prices are rising every day.
While addressing a press conference in Srinagar, PDP General Secretary Mehboob Beg alleged that Government has stopped providing employment opportunities to youth in J&K. He said that the unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir has gone upto 40 percent.
Beg said that the Indian government is purchasing oil from Russia at discounted rates and it is good for the country economically as well as diplomatically. “But at the same time, oil prices are rising every day by a few rupees. The common man is not getting benefitted from the cheap oil. Where is the money going?” he asked.
The PDP leader said that the government has failed to provide basic facilities to the people and prices are soaring day by day.
“Take the power sector, recently one of the ministers of the BJP said that they will provide free power to Jammu but J&K is reeling under worst power crisis. There is power curtailment even in Sehri and Iftari time”, he said.
He said that government has failed to control the prices of cooking gas, kerosene and other essentials.
Beg said that BJP had hold Article 370 responsible for all ills of the Jammu and Kashmir but since its abrogation the hardships faced by people of this place have gone up by 10 times.
“As a Kashmiri I hold Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as best PM of the country. His three main contributions in the recently inaugurated Museum by PM Modi Ambedkar anniversary have been highlighted as Pokhran nuclear tests, Lahore visit and Jammu and Kashmir peace initiative”, he said.
“Was his Lahore visit taken forward. It happed soon after Kargil war. Has it been taken it forward? PM must explain it. Next is peace initiative on Kashmir. Was it taken it forward?” he asked.
He said that Government of India and Pakistan should re-start peace process.
