PDP-BJP Govt weakening Panchayat institutions: Mir

Excelsior Correspondent
SRINAGAR, July 27:  Describing PDP- BJP coalition a great threat to Panchayat institutions and other autonomous bodies,  Pradesh Congress Committee chief  G A Mir  today said that  the efforts are being made to make these institutions defunct for benefiting  the  workers of  ruling dispensation.
Addressing a Panchayat conference at Verinag  in Dooru constituency today, the PCC alleged that Mufti Government was hell bent to weaken the Panchayat institutions in the State. He alleged that sensing a trouble in coming days ahead, efforts were being made by PDP led Govt to undermine the authority of Panchayat institutions and its representative character in the State.
“The developmental plans prepared by Panchayat bodies  at Panchayat or village level are being rejected and now biting dust in Govt offices. The   MLAs of  ruling  parties are being given free hand to  prepare the developmental plans, aiming to gain political mileage  and benefit their party workers,”  the PCC chief said.
Launching scathing attack on Mufti Govt, Mir alleged that PDP- BJP Coalition is  trying to make  Panchayat bodies defunct in the State. He said that any move to undermine the authority of Panchayat institutions will certainly tell upon the health of PDP- BJP Coalition which is a sinking boat.  Both PDP  BJP are aware that they are losing  ground in the State and now they are indulging in mass discrimination at all levels in the system.
“Attempts are being made to crush the Panchayat bodies and other independent institutions in the State, as the ruling parties fear that if  Panchayats are given free hand   in  developmental plans, they won’t be in a position to beat the drums of their so called developmental plans,” he maintained.
“Congress believes that Panchayats are an important tool of democracy and is fully committed to make Panchayat institutions more powerful and vibrant. Congress Party will defeat any move which is aiming to undermine the authority of Panchayat institutions and its representatives,”  Mr  said.
