JAMMU, Dec 13: Reacting to the distribution of Rs 5.5 lakh cheque to each displaced family by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, former minister and senior NC leader Ajay Sadhotra termed it as a biggest betrayal with the PoK displaced persons
In a press statement here today, Sadhotra said that National Conference Government headed by Omar Abdullah had recommended to the Central Government for sanction of Rs 25 lakh per family as one time final settlement of their long pending demands. The PoK displaced persons of 1947, 1965 and 1971 are striving hard for their demands.
The NC leader said that during 2014 Assembly elections, BJP misguided and exploited the PoK refugees by telling them not to talk of Rs 25 lakh per family. If BJP comes to power, each PoK family will be given Rs 30 lakhs. But now the BJP is badly exposed and PoK displaced persons have come to know their real face.
Sadhotra said that PDP-BJP is insensitive to the sensitivity of the problems and demands of the displaced persons from PoK. The DPs have faced lot of difficulties during 1947, 1965 and 1971 but now, by giving them only Rs 5.5 lakh per family, the BJP has rubbed salt on their wounds.
The NC leader said that the then Omar led Govt after giving a sympathetic and realistic thought to the problems and demands of PoK DPs, recommended to the Central Government to sanction and release Rs 9000 crore for full and final settlement of 36,000 families. At present, BJP is ruling at the Centre and the State also. But instead of chasing the recommendations of the then Omar Abdullah Govt for sanction of Rs 25 lakh to each family, BJP has failed to serve the cause of the PoK refugees.
NC leader asked the Central Government not to make joke of the genuine and just problems of the PoK displaced persons and release Rs 25 lakh for every displaced family, as recommended by the then Omar Abdullah Government.
