JAMMU, Dec 27: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Coordinator for Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary Constituency, Abdul Hamid Choudhary has asked the Government to empower Panchayats in the State either by extending provisions of Central Act to State Panchayati Raj Act or bringing in the necessitated amendments to bring it at par with Central Act.
“Where is that legislation which Government had promised to bring in the State Legislative Assembly to empower Panchayats in the State, Hamid questioned?
The State Government, he said, had categorically stated that it was averse to extending 73rd Amendment of Constitution of India to State Panchayati Raj Act but assured that State Act will be amended to bring it at par with Central Law.
He asked the Government to end stalemate over the issue of empowering Panchayats and either extend provisions of Central Act to State Panchayati Raj Act or bring in the necessitated amendments to bring it at par with Central Act.
