PDD lineman murdered

JAMMU, Aug 31: A lineman of Power Development Department (PDD) was found murdered today in a farm in Gharota area of city outskirts. “The deceased has been identified as Somnath Sharma (60) son of Amir Chand, resident of Jandial (Gharota). He was a lineman of PDD and was retiring from his services today,” a police officer said. He said that Somnath was found murdered this morning in a farm, at some distance from his residence. “He was bearing serious assault marks on his neck,” the officer said, adding that before his death, he contact one of his relatives on mobile phone and told that he was attacked with sharp edged weapon by one Hem Raj Sharma and others.
The officer said the deceased had an altercation with the accused over some land issue on Friday evening following which the accused had threatened him of dire consequences. He said later the deceased snapped power supply of main accused, which further escalated the tension.
The police officer said that on the basis of deceased’s disclosure to his relative on mobile phone, three persons including Hem Raj Sharma who are of same village, have been arrested and being interrogated. He said the accused had some old rivalry with the deceased over some land issue.
He said that a case under relevant sections was registered at police station Gharota and further investigations were underway while the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites after completion of postmortem at Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
