SAMBA, Sept 19: The daily wagers of the Power Development Department (PDD), under the banner of the J&K Central Non-Gazetted Employees Union, today along with their children, demonstrated vigorously in front of the Electricity Department Office here, regarding their pending demands.
The protest was led by Surjit Khajuria, the provincial secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Central Non-Gazetted Employees Union. The protesters appealed to the Government that the outstanding salary should be given to the daily wager as soon as possible so that they too can take care of themselves and their families.
The protestors alleged that daily wagers are not given any Risk Allowance, whereas they work in all the dangerous places.
They also demanded convening of DPC for daily wagers promotion under SRO 381 so that they can also get the promotion and regularization benefits . A protesting girl said that her father has been working in this Department for the last many years and he has not been confirmed till date. “We have seen many such daily wagers who get injured while working and many have even died,. But the Government does not have any provision to give benefits to them and there are many such families who find it difficult to arrange food for their children everyday’’.
Deedar Singh, Sohan Singh, Vinod Padha, Raman Sharma etc addressed the protestors.
