SRINAGAR, Sept 18: High Court today directed the Chief Engineer Electric Maintenance and Rural Electrification Wing to deposit an amount of Rs 50,000 with the registry of the court within 10 days as interim compensation to the family of a boy who died of electrocution in Budgam district.
A Single Bench comprising of Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur directed that “in case the amount is not deposited with the registry through Registrar Judicial, the Chief Engineer will not draw his salary till further orders from the court.
The Court was hearing a petition filed by the father of the 16-year-old boy Irfan Ahmad Dar of Dadura, Khag of Budgam district, who was electrocuted with a high tension line carrying 11,000 volts of electric current.
Alleging his son lost his life due to “negligent and casual” approach of the Electric Maintenance and Rural Electrification Wing of Power Development Department in installing, maintaining, operating and protection of high tension line running overhead all across the city, town, village roads, the father had filed a petition before the court to seek compensation from the department amounting to Rs 82, 80000 (rough calculation of the boy’s life-long earning) in his favour.
