RAJOURI, Jan 15: An Assistant Engineer of the Power Development Department (PDD) dies of asphyxia at his rented house at Sunderbani town last night.
A police official said that AE Kuldip Kumar (54), son of Durga Dass, resident of village Barnara in Sunderbani, was posted at Pouni (Reasi). He was living in the rented accommodation in the house of one Ajay Kumar at Ward No. 5, Sunderbani. He slept in the room last night and locked it from inside. His family was in Jammu.
His wife tried to contact him on his mobile phone several times in the morning hours but he did not respond. She became suspicious and then contacted her sister who also lives in Sunderbani to find out Kuldip.
She and her son when reached there in the afternoon and found doors of the room locked from inside. They inquired from the landlord and neighbours who told that they thought, it was Sunday and he must be sleeping till late and did not disturb him.
They all then also informed police and the door was broken. They found that he was lying dead on his bed. A “Sagri” was also lying nearby in the room which was fully closed. The police suspected that he might have died due to asphyxia caused by Corbon Monoxide in the closed room. His body was sent for postmortem and later handed over to the family for last rites. The police have started investigation.
