PCR Jammu launches helpline for women, accident victims

JAMMU, Mar 4:  In a new initiative, the Police Control Room (PCR) Jammu has started toll free women helpline to curb the menace of eve teasing, obscene phone calls, SMSes, MMSes and other cases of domestic violence.
The initiative has been taken by SSP PCR Jammu Ashok Sharma.
Mr Sharma said any woman being harassed by the eve-teasers, or through obscene telephone calls, SMS/MMS and domestic violence shouldn’t bear the harassment silently and immediately call toll from women helpline numbers 1091 and 100.
Mr Sharma has also launched helpline number to help road accident victims and check activities of anti-national elements.
Any person spotting victims of road accidents needing police help or those observing suspicious movement or objects can dial the helpline numbers including 2542001, 2542000, 2560401 and 100, Mr Sharma said, adding that police will keep identity of those giving information to police confidential.
Mr Sharma said this new initiative of police will restore confidence among the women especially the young college students, who are harassed by some unscrupulous elements.
The helpline, he said, will also prove useful in saving lives of accident victims.
