PCJ announces 3rd Ashok Sodhi Memorial Photography Awards

JAMMU, Sept 21: Press Club of Jammu announced Third Ashok Sodhi Memorial Awards for Best Photography 2017 by the three member jury at a function organized here today.

As per the results declared during an event, two photojournalists each were awarded jointly for the top three positions.
The first prize was grabbed by two photojournalists Pradip Bakshi (Dainik Jagran) and Sewa Ram. The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 11,000 and a certificate.
The second prize winners were Mohit Kandhari (The Pioneer) and Alok Pathania (Dainik Savera) who were rewarded cash prize of Rs 8000.
For the third place, Inderjeet Singh (The Tribune) and Shiv Pratap Singh (Dainik Savera) were declared joint winners and rewarded a cash prize of Rs 5000.
The consolation prizes were won by Sanjay Gupta (Amar Ujala), Ishtaayaq Rasool (IIMC Jammu), Rakshit Sharma (students), Haseeb Ahmed Dar (GCM College) and Bhaskar Suri (freelancer). Rs 2000 were awarded to the consolation prize winners.
The participation of photojournalists increased manifold this year as compared to 2015 and 2016 awards. 16 students pursuing Diploma/Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication also participated actively in the competition.
The photo competition was judged by the three member jury comprising Farooq Javed Khan (EPA), Channi Anand (AP) and S N Acharya (MOD).
Before the award ceremony, SN Acharaya, Jury Member, presented the report of the screening committee on behalf of the Chairman of the committee.
The awards were presented by president of Press Club, Ashwani Kumar, and Secretary General Zorawar Singh Jamwal along with Jury members.
Speaking on the occasion, president Press Club of Jammu, Ashwani Kumar motivated budding photo journalists to improve their photography skills.
Secretary General Zorawar Singh Jamwal announced that Press Club of Jammu has made this event an annual feature in memory of their colleague and from next year, entries will also be invited from Ladakh region.
