JAMMU, Sept 10: Sangeeta Gupta, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Jammu held a meeting with the office bearers of Chamber of Commerce and discussed with them payment of Advance Tax installment, which is to be deposited on or before September 15.
The PCIT asked the Chamber to urge all their members to deposit the Advance Tax within time particularly those tax payers who avoid payment of Advance Tax but subsequently pay the tax on self assessment.
Drawing the attention of Chamber towards the provisions of Section 139(1) of the Income Tax Act, 1961, she said, “it has been made mandatory for all the persons whose income is above Rs five lakh to file their returns of income in electronic format after registering their particulars”.
“There is good response from the public and returns are being uploaded and manual returns are also being filed at different Income Tax offices in the State”, adding “though there is extended date for filing of return expired on 07.09.2015 but still the persons who are liable to file their returns of income, can do so both electronically as well as manually as applicable in their case and department is providing all the facilities and assistance to them to discharge their obligation”.
She appealed all such persons, who have not so far filed their returns of income, to come forward and file their returns of income.
