PCB organises public hearing for hazardous waste treatment

JAMMU, Oct 29: J&K State Pollution Control Board (JKSPCB) today organised a public hearing at Phase II, IGC Samba near the project site in village Madhera in connection with setting up of an integrated common hazardous waste treatment, storage, disposal and recycling facility.
Regional Director, SPCB, Shoket Choudhary while speaking, highlighted the utility of the project and stressed upon the urgent need for treatment, storage, disposal and recycling of industrial hazardous waste, bio-medical and e-waste on scientific lines in accordance with Hazardous Waste Rules, 2008 under the provisions of Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
He said industrial growth is linked with growing development needs and hence there is a great requirement of such a facility to scientifically manage hazardous waste.
Dr B Chadekhar, representative of the project executing company M/s APR Projects Private Limited, Hyderabad, gave a detailed presentation on various types of hazardous waste to be scientifically managed by the company.
The company’s representatives emphasized on installation of requisite pollution control devices and adoption of other pollution control and safety measures.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Samba, T Rajender Singh, CEO of the company, Anil Sharma, AEE, District Officer, SPCB, Samba, Pradeep Manhas, GM DIC, Vikram Gupta GM, SIDCO, SR Sapolia, Advocate SS Sambyal, Subash Chander, representatives of village Madhera, besides various other dignitaries were also present.
